An Umbrian Dream – James & Georgia’s Destination Wedding in Italy

There’s something timeless about Italian weddings — the golden light, the scent of fresh herbs in the air, and that easy sense of joy that seems to infuse every moment. For James and Georgia, Italy wasn’t just a stunning backdrop; it was a story more than a decade in the making.

These two first met at university twelve years ago and have been exploring the world — and especially Italy — together ever since. From their first trip to Rome as 19-year-olds to later adventures through Venice, Lake Como, Bologna, and Naples, Italy has always held a special place in their hearts. So when it came to choosing where to get married, there was never any question — it had to be here.

A Destination Wedding in the Heart of Umbria

Their wedding took place at Abbazia Sette Frati, a 12th-century abbey surrounded by olive trees, vineyards, and wildflowers. It’s one of those places that feels suspended in time — full of rustic textures, painted ceilings, and quiet corners where the light falls just right.

Georgia got ready in one of the abbey’s softly lit rooms, wrapped in laughter and excitement as her friends and family gathered around. Her dress — elegant, off-the-shoulder, and effortlessly chic — suited the setting perfectly. The flowers, grown on-site at the abbey, were a vibrant mix of seasonal blooms in shades of orange, pink, and cream — gathered on site at the flower farm.

As the ceremony unfolded beneath the Umbrian sun, guests sipped local wine and soaked in the scenery — the rolling hills stretching endlessly beyond the abbey walls. It was the kind of setting that makes you understand exactly why destination weddings in Italy are so special: the warmth, the food, the laughter, the rhythm of the day.

James and Georgia’s friends brought all the colour and personality you could hope for — bold dresses, vibrant energy, and that unmistakable feeling of shared joy. Guests mingled in the garden as @mariottieros, a local chef, served incredible Italian dishes, from homemade pasta to local boar ragù. Later, @mariachiara.fiorucci played the harp during aperitivo before @gutyandsimone took over to get everyone dancing as the sun went down.

Everything about the day felt relaxed, authentic, and deeply personal — the kind of wedding that could only happen here, in the middle of Umbria, where hospitality and beauty come as naturally as the breeze through the olive trees.

A destination wedding in Italy offers more than a beautiful location — it’s an experience. Long lunches, local wine, warm evenings spent under the stars. And for couples like James and Georgia, who have built memories here over the years, it’s the perfect way to weave a new chapter into a story that already feels beautifully Italian.
